Four leaders with the Erlanger Health System were honored at the Tennessee Hospital Association’s and American College of Healthcare Executives’ annual conferences in Nashville last week. The Tennessee Hospital Association is comprised of 169 members throughout the state, including health systems, hospitals and home health agencies.

Erlanger leaders received awards in three of the 18 recognition categories by THA on Friday: the “Meritorious Service Award for a Department Head”, the “Meritorious Service Award for a Board Member” and the “Meritorious Service Award for a Volunteer” Award.  The ACHE conferred five awards during the same conference, with another Erlanger executive receiving one of those awards for “Senior Level Healthcare Executive.”

The Meritorious Award for Department Head was presented to Terry Ellis, RRT, Respiratory Care Clinical manager at Erlanger Health System for his efforts motivational and inspirational efforts with his team.  "Mr. Ellis oversees a department of more than 110 therapists and continuously inspires them to provide world-class care, regardless of the work load.  Mr. Ellis has proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves for 29 years and is currently a sargent first class in the Army Reserves and was last deployed as a non-commissioned officer," officials said.

THA’s Meritorious Award in the Volunteer division was awarded to Ann Roberts, a volunteer at Erlanger.  For two days a week each week, Ms. Roberts and her service dog use public transportation and travel to Erlanger Heart and Lung Institute to make reminder calls to patients about their appointments.  "Ms. Roberts has not let her lost sight negate the impact she can make on other people’s lives through her work at the health system. She is a calming presence and comforting voice for many patients who are nervous about their impending procedures," officials said.

This year’s “Meritorious Award for Board Member” went to Jack Studer, chairman of the board at Erlanger Health System.  "Mr. Studer is a true champion for the health system and healthcare improvements. An innovator, his financial acumen and creative expertise have been invaluable to Erlanger’s success," officials said.

Britt Tabor, FACHE was awarded the ACHE “Senior Level Healthcare Executive Award” award for mentoring staff and encouraging their personal and professional development, including their affiliation and participation in ACHE and East Tennessee Healthcare Executives Affiliation activities.  Mr. Tabor currently serves as the executive vice president and chief financial officer for Erlanger Health System. He has been with the health system for over 30 years and has been recognized nationally by Becker’s as one of top hospital and health system CFO’s to know.  "Britt navigates the challenging landscape in healthcare reimbursement and financing and has been instrumental in guiding Erlanger to become one of top ten public health systems in the US," officials said.

In addition, twenty-one Erlanger clinical and specialist associates represented the Chattanooga-based health system during the annual THA Leadership Summit presentations. The Leadership Summit highlights Tennessee hospitals and health systems’ successful strategies to create a culture for performance excellence and improve patient outcomes.

"This year Erlanger was at the forefront in sharing research and quality improvement projects in all 7 categories:  Community Outreach, Clinical, Culture of Safety, Patient and Family, Process Improvement, Surgery and Workforce.  The posters will be displayed at the next Quality (QOC) Meeting," officials said.
