Charles Edward Sutton, Sr., 95, of Hixson, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the family residence.


Charles was raised in Lawrenceburg, Tn., where he graduated from Lawrence County High School and then joined the Navy in 1940, stationed in Maryland.  Mr. Sutton received medical discharge in 1942 when he decided to stay in Maryland and went to work as a medalist engineer for the Navy retiring in 1981.  After retirement from the Navy he decided to return to work for ITI making lamps until retiring in 1986.  It was two years later in 1986 that he moved to Chattanooga, 1988.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Sutton; son, Charles Edward Sutton, Jr.; parents, Ansol and Hettie Chambers and step-grandson, Chris Bannon.


Survivors include his son, Richard Allen (Catherine) Sutton; grandson, Charles Scott (Lily) Sutton; great-grandson, Logan Sutton; one step grandson, Wayne Porreco, three sisters, Genece McKamey, Ramona Hamby, Geneva Crabb and many nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, in the chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home.


Interment will be on Monday, Oct. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.


Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, from 1-3 p.m. prior to the funeral service at Hamilton Funeral Home.


The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga and all of the caregivers for the generous care and compassion.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or Burks United Methodist Church.
