County Commissioner Tim Boyd said Wednesday he finds the setting of a "call out" town hall meeting by a group of county school teachers "offensive."
All County Commission and School Board members have been invited to the meeting organized in the name of an East Hamilton teacher.
It will be on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Brainerd YFD Center on S. Moore Road in Brainerd.
Commissioner Boyd said he looked up the meaning of call out and found one variation as "a challenge to a duel."
He said, "For any organization to call out County Commissioners and try to make them look irresponsible or uncaring - that's just offensive."
Commissioner Boyd said one of the signees on a letter of support is Jonas Barriere, official of UnifiEd. He termed him "a DNC-trained political guy who has no educational background."
Commissioner Boyd said the commission had provided $90 million in additional operating funds to the County Schools since he joined the panel in 2010.
He said, "Every year this commission increases funding to the Department of Education."
Commissioner Boyd said it was a teacher group - the Hamilton County Education Association - that was involved in decided that teachers would not get a raise, but instead receive a $1,500 bonus
