Nineteen children and four adults from North Whitfield Middle School in Whitfield County who were on a field trip were injured in an accident around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, involving two school buses in Bradley County, according to the Bradley County Emergency Management Agency.

The Bradley County Sheriff's Office said the accident happened on APD 40 in front of the Speedway gas station.

The accident occurred when one bus rear-ended the other, said Whitfield County Schools Spokeswoman Kristina Horsley.

Four adults and 19 students were taken to the hospital. Nine were taken by ambulance, and a Cleveland City Schools bus took the rest.

Whitfield County Schools spokeswoman Kristina Horsley said all students are now safe and accounted for.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a total of 33 people were on the bus at the time of the accident, and that most students went to Tennova Hospital. One student and one adult were reportedly transported by ambulance to Erlanger Hospital with non-life threating injuries. Everyone else has minor injuries, according to THP officials.
