Hamilton County was exempted from a controversial school voucher bill in the Senate version.

Senator Bo Watson said Knoxville was also left out.

The Senate version includes Metro Nashville and Shelby County.

Senators Watson and Todd Gardenhire wound up opposing the county's participation in the bill sought by Governor Bill Lee.

Hamilton County School Supt. Bryan Johnson welcomed the move.

He said the county schools already offer over 40 school options.
