Marion “Wymal” Porter was born on Sept. 22, 1923 in Huntsville, Ar. and was called to Heaven on Saturday, June 1, 2019. He was married for 56 years to Evelyn Doris Porter, who preceded him in death. He moved to Chattanooga in 1956, where he attended Tennessee Temple University and Temple Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating in 1963. After graduation, he taught in the Bible department of the University for 34 years. He was a member of Stanley Heights Baptist Church.
Dr. Porter is survived by five nephews, David (Norma) Porter, of Chattanooga, Daniel (Ruth) Porter, of Denver, Co., Frank and (Connie) Porter, of Pagosa, Co., James (Margaret) Porter, of Knoxville and Timothy Porter, of Gainesville, Ga.; one niece, Carol (Bob) Krinsky, of Shawnee, Ok.; and special friends and caregivers, Jimmy and Geraldine Winburn.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 4 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home, with Rev. Brent Baughman officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
