University of Tennessee at Chattanooga midfielder Hollie Massey connected on a penalty kick early in the second half to give the Mocs a 1-0 win at Tennessee Tech in a preseason exhibition match.
Massey raced toward the net with freshman Faith Gober setting up the shot, but was taken down just inside the 18-yard box. She took the penalty kick herself and connected for what would prove to be the game winner.
Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney was able to get looks from several players on the pitch and all three keepers saw time in the net.
The Mocs outshot TTU 12-5 with five shots on goal. The Golden Eagles did not threaten the entire night.
In the waning minutes of play, Chattanooga threatened. Sophomore Maggie Shaw sent a shot that the Tech keeper was able to push away but not pull in. Freshman Cameron Giles picked it up but the shot went wide.
The Mocs will open the season Friday night at the UTC Sports Complex against Austin Peay at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free. Bleacher seating is available but feel free to bring along your own seating.
