Bessie Louise Filyaw, 86, passed away on September 3, 2019.  

She was a member of Grace Avenue Baptist Church for over 64 years.  Mrs. Filyaw was called “Momma” by those who knew her.  She was very loved and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Bessie Schulthies; husbands, James McGhee and Virgil Filyaw, and siblings, Bobby Wallace and Ruth.

Mrs. Filyaw is survived by her sons, James and Michael McGhee; daughters, Darlene (Wayne) Heaton and Lisa (Jeremy) Goodman; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 3–7 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home, Highway 58. There will also be a visitation on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m.–noon at Grace Avenue Baptist Church, 3811 Grace Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37406, with the funeral following at noon with Pastor David Turner and Pastor Norma Peters officiating.  

Mrs. Filyaw will be laid to rest in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
