Marjorie McElrath
Marjorie McElrath, age 87, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Hamilton Medical Center.
Marjorie was born April 28, 1933 in Dalton, Ga., a daughter of the late Arvil Oney and Gertrude Fuqua Faith. Marjorie’s mother died when she was two weeks old and she was raised by her father and aunts. She was a 1953 graduate of Valley Point High School. She was retired from Shaw Industries, Inc. (E & B) and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Christopher C. “Chris” McElrath who died Jan. 9, 1992.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Teresa Barnes, Angela and Glen Grant both of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Brooke and Brandon Warren, Nicholas and Ashley Barnes, Whitney Grant, Lindsey Grant, Hope Grant, Collin Raymond, William Grant and Justin Grant; great-grandson, Liam Warren; special friends who she thought of as family, Michael and Courtney Garner and their daughters, Gabbie and Ellie; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Marjorie McElrath will be held Sunday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Pastor Ted Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the Red Wine Cove Cemetery, with Brandon Warren, Michael Garner, Michael Craig, Andy Beard, Chris Thomas and Ronnie Cochran honored to serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, and after noon Sunday, Oct. 23, until the service hour.
Due to the national health crisis and the COVID-19 virus, masks must be worn properly at all times and social distancing must be observed when visiting the funeral home.
