Sequatchie County High School senior Ella Edgmon recently signed to play softball at Georgia Tech. Edgmon batted .575 as a sophomore for Sequatchie in 2019, helping the team place fourth at the Class AA state tournament. For the season, she had 25 doubles, 11 triples, 69 runs and stole 55 bases in 55 attempts, ranking among the best in Tennessee in each category. Edgmon stole four bases against Alcoa in the state tournament, tying a tournament record for any class. The 2020 school season was unable to be played.
Playing for the Fury Platinum 18U team in summer 2020, Edgmon hit .483 with a .522 on-base percentage, batting against numerous Division I signing and committing pitchers. She had 58 runs, 37 stolen bases, 18 RBI, nine doubles, and five triples.
For her travel season success, Edgmon was named Extra Inning Softball's National Travel Player of the Week once in 2020, and runner-up three times.
Edgmon is part of an eight-player signing class for Georgia Tech, which ranked 17th nationally and second in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Others from the Chattanooga area signing with Georgia Tech were Gordon Lee pitcher Emma Minghini and Coahulla Creek pitcher Sophia Voyles.
