A sweet $10,000 World of Outlaw Late Model series victory came to Newport, Tn. racer Jimmy Owens a day before Valentine's Day as the driver known as the "Newport Nightmare" won his career first DirtCar Nationals at Volusia County Speedway Thursday night.
The East Tennessee fan favorite "O-Show" wheeled his "Ramirez Motorsports, Boomtest Well Services, Redbone Fishing and Rentals, Reese Monument, Tommy Pope Construction, Power Rig, Red Line Oil, RynoAG, Keyser Manufacturing" sponsored Vic Hill powered Rocket racecar (2:223 seconds) ahead of Chickamauga's Dale McDowell to win the nights 40 lap feature in flag to flag fashion.
The race (#4 of 6) this week during Speedweeks of Daytona leading to Sunday's "Great American Race" at the Superspeedway drew 51 dirt Super Late Models, to the half mile dirt track oval, with West Virginia's Josh Richards finishing third just ahead of Blairsville, Ga.'s Jonathan Davenport and Winfield Tn.'s Mike Marlar respectively.
Full shows Friday and Saturday wrap up the dirt racing portion of Speedweeks paying out $10,000 to each night's winner.
