East Hamilton Tabs Former Major Leaguer Matt Ramsey To Lead Hurricane Baseball

Thursday, July 30, 2020

The 2008 Mr. Baseball for the state of Tennessee, Matt Ramsey will join the coaching ranks at East Hamilton School effective immediately. Ramsey earned his Mr. Baseball recognition and 2 state titles playing at Farragut High School. While originally drafted in 2008 by the Cleveland Indians, Coach Ramsey chose to play for the UT Volunteers for three seasons. In the 2011 draft, Coach Ramsey was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays. Since 2011, he has played professionally with several organizations as well as a MLB debut with the Los Angeles Angels in April of 2019.

East Hamilton School Principal, Brent Eller, commented that “Ramsey’s energy is felt instantly. Upon initially speaking with him and the subsequent interviews, it became clear that Matt Ramsey was the right choice to Skipper the Canes. He has an energy about him that is unique. It is compelling and we feel that this attribute along with Ramsey’s baseball knowledge and storied career will bolster the already successful program established by now Assistant Principal Steve Garland.”

Athletic Director, Keitha Booker, said of Ramsey “I am proud of the effort put into this coaching search. Our team has spent a considerable amount of time researching candidates and our search team has done a tremendous job narrowing down to our top candidate. When searching for the next coach to take over this program, we were not only looking for “a Coach” but “THE Coach” to come in and help take this program to the next level. Coach Ramsey has the skills, expertise, and disposition to lead our student athletes both on and off the field. I look forward to Coach Ramsey being a part of the East Hamilton family.”

You’ll remember the COVID crisis abruptly ended the 2019-20 school year in April and then followed a miserable four months where the flu effectively prohibited our children from seeing their friends, playing Little League baseball and being on the swim team.
