Ella Edgmon, a 2021 graduate from Sequatchie County High School, was named a runner-up for ExtraInningSoftball’s National Club Player of the Week twice in July. An outfielder, Edgmon plays with the Chattanooga-based Fury Platinum 18U and is a commitment to UT-Chattanooga. ExtraInningSoftball covers the sport from the club to the professional ranks on its website.
At the Triple Crown Sparkler event in Chattanooga July 1-5, Edgmon batted 13-22, .591 over eight games with a .640 on-base percentage. She scored 12 runs.
During the Triple Crown Southeast Nationals in Georgia July 16-19, Edgmon batted 15-24, .625 with a .679 on base percentage. She stole 10 of 10 bases, including four in one game and scored 13 runs with two triples. Numerous pitchers at each event were highly ranked, including several commitments and signees to SEC and ACC colleges. Edgmon batted 4-4 against a pitcher committed to Kentucky.
Other Chattanooga-area standouts on the Fury Platinum 18U roster include pitcher Sydney Berzon and infielder Sophie Piskos from Baylor and pitcher Rachel Gibson from Heritage.
In school softball, Edgmon helped Sequatchie County to the Class AA state tournament as a sophomore in 2019, batting .575 for the season with 25 doubles, 11 triples, 69 runs and 55 stolen bases in 55 attempts over 40 games. She ranked among or tops among state leaders in each of those categories and has stolen 104 of 105 bases in two seasons. Sequatchie was considered among the favorites to win Class AA in 2020 after graduating only one starter, with three senior signees and four other players committed but the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. The team now eagerly awaits the 2021 season.
