Lee University will host a faculty recital with K. Alan Shikoh, guitar, on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Squires Recital Hall, located in Lee’s Humanities Center.

Mr. Shikoh, described as offering “a beautiful, nuanced arrangement that showcased incredible poise and technique” by Guitarist Magazine, will perform a wide variety of music, including pieces such as “P.S. I Love You” by Gordon Jenkins and Johnny Mercer, “Haunted Heart” by Howard Deitz and Arthur Schwartz, “Waltse for Dave” by Chick Corea, “My Old Kentucky Home” by Stephen Foster, “Lush Life” by Billy Strayhorn, and “What a Wonderful World” by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss, among others. Also included are two of his own compositions, “Adobe and Below” and “Doxology.” Every piece in the recital was arranged, composed, or transcribed by Mr. Shikoh.

“Mastery of his instrument is glaringly evident,” said Dutch Progressive Rock Page. “Texture and mood are added seemingly effortlessly, and there is a wonderful fluidity to his playing.”

Beginning his musical journey at the age of 12, Mr. Shikoh was trained in classical guitar at The McCallie School in Chattanooga and received his Bachelor of Music in guitar performance from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and his Master of Arts from Middle Tennessee State University.

He has performed on the NPR radio show “From the Top,” was chosen as a finalist for Acoustic Guitarist of the Year by MusicRadar and Guitarist Magazine, and has won multiple awards for his compositions, including first place in the Roland Dyens International Arranging Competition and second place in the Portugal International Guitar Composition Competition.

Mr. Shikoh has served as a session player for a wide range of musical projects. He has also taught as an adjunct faculty at Lee University, Southern Adventist University, and Covenant College.

The recital is free and open to the public.

The recital will also be available via livestream at https://livestream.com/leeu.
