McCallie Cross Country Team Wins Alabama Race

The McCallie Cross Country team had a successful road trip to Huntsville, AL and finished first among 25 teams at the Randolph Invitational. 

McCallie tallied 40 points to outdistance runner-up Birmingham Chelsea which scored 110 points. 

There were 350 finishers in the varsity boys 5K race and McCallie was led by freshman Jack Bowen who covered the 5K John Hunt Park Course with an outstanding time of 15:38 and 2nd overall.  He was followed by sophomore teammates Evan Simpson in 5th with a time of 16:10 and Grady Outlaw in 6th who ran 16:15.

Junior Hugh Carlson raced a 16:18 to finish 8th and give The Tornado 4 finishers in the top 10.  Junior Nate Armstrong ran 16:53 and captured 21st place to complete McCallie’s top 5 scores.  Juniors’ Harry Carter in 26th with a 17:01 and Lawson Parsley in 17:05 to finish 28th were McCallie’s 6th and 7th varsity runners. 

Other McCallie athletes in the race included Jake Armstrong, Sam Baker, John Gabbert, Jack Serby, Ward Richey and Rhys Woodard who all broke the 18-minute barrier.  Eason Zhou, Abel Windemuller, Henry Edwards, Grant Sutherland, Milo Newton and Byron Zou ran just over 18 minutes for 5K. 

McCallie coach Mike Wood was pleased with his young team.  “Everyone ran very well and Jack was incredible.  It’s always fun to win out of state meets and represent Tennessee running.” 

McCallie will defend the Chattanooga Area Front Runner Championship title next week on Thursday at Baylor.  McCallie is back to back TSSAA DIIAA State Cross Country Champions.
