The rain and the fog cleared away at Champions Tennis Center to allow all the middle school tennis players from all over Hamilton County to participate in the annual district tennis tournament.

There were almost 100 middle school athletes fiercely competing to represent their schools. The girl’s singles title was won by Brooke Martin of Signal Mountain.  Miss Martin had to defeat her own teammate Kate Gilbert to win the title.  The boy’s singles title had a similar situation.  Jax Rogers of Hixson won the boy’s singles title by defeating his own teammate Campbell Inman.

The girl’s doubles title was won by Allie Smith and Savannah Cummings of Signal Mountain.  They played a tough match against Madeline Hayward and Sarah Porterfield of CSAS.  The CSLA boy’s doubles team won the boy’s doubles title.  Andrew Rice and Henry Spann represented CSLA.  They defeated Brian Dunn and Ryan Spencer of East Hamilton in a closely fought match.  At the end of the day, all the coaches have the desire to include more schools and more athletes in the wonderful game of tennis.  We hope that these student athletes will continue to play tennis for a lifetime of fun.

Each coach is responsible for naming All-County players.  The number of players each school has is determined by their ranking after playing everyone on their side of the district.  Tennis is divided into the west and the east.

In Praise Of EV - And Response

Roy, sometimes I think I envy your uncanny ability to compartmentalize, draw bright lines and to simply conclude that thing one is good and thing two is bad. No electric vehicle for you. In Roy’s universe: Batteries are bad. Gasoline is good. My 30+ years of practicing environmental law and addressing legacy environmental impacts have proved otherwise. As the Eagles ... Roy Exum: Georgia Picked By 6½

So help me, I can hear the legendary Bear Bryant telling his players: “Bingo, we got Georgia right where we want ‘em, They are cocky, fat and sassy … all we got to do is keep our wits about us and do the things we know we can do. I know we can do it. Now, let’s get ready to play Georgia the game of their lives …” The trouble is Coach Bryant died almost 40 years ago and this week, ... (click for more)
