Bettie Martin Cooper
Bettie Martin Cooper, 86 of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on October 26, 2021.
She was the daughter of the late William Edward Martin and Flossie Elizabeth Martin.
Bettie was born and raised in Richard City, Tn. She graduated from South Pittsburg High School in 1953 and then attended business college in Nashville. She started her career with the Interstate Insurance Company prior to beginning her five decades as business officer manager of Tri-City Bridgeport Hospital and South Pittsburg/Grandview Hospital.
She was a longtime member of Richard City Baptist Church where she served as treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She was involved with Women’s Missions, VBS and many other areas of service. Bettie enjoyed gardening, outings with her friends, growing cacti, quilting, and knitting. She was a wonderful cook and loved regular Sunday dinners with her family gathered around.
In addition to her parents, Bettie is preceded in death by her husband, Sam F Cooper, daughter, Cathy Cooper Thomas, sisters, Ella Mae Frye and Tennie Martin, brothers; William (Buddy) Martin and Tolly Martin.
She is survived by her sons, Randy (June) Cooper and Jim (Sandra) Cooper, her grandchildren; Daimon (Claire) Duggar, Nick Thomas, Alex Thomas, Will Cooper, Laura (Andrew) Hohwald, Sam Cooper and Wes Cooper. Her great grandchildren are; Allison Sexton, Cooper Hohwald, Taylor Hohwald, Willa Duggar and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Betty Reynolds, Lisa Long, Geraldine Cothran , Barbara Anderson, and those at The Lantern for the loving care they provided.
A graveside service will be on Friday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. CST, Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens, with Brother Norman Payne officiating. There will be no public visitation due to Covid.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research or Hospice of Chattanooga.
