The McCallie swimming and diving team earned six top-three finishes Saturday at the Annual McCallie Invitational to place third in the overall boys team standings. The Blue Tornado forged a 279 team point total and trailed national top-10 squad St. Xavier of Kentucky (648) and 2021 Georgia State Champions North Gwinnett (322).
Senior Sam Powe, a University of Georgia commitment, placed second in the 200-meter individual medley and third in the 100-meter butterfly.
His time of 1:49.30 in the 200 IM is a school record and an automatic All-America qualifying time.
Powe was also a member of the wining 200 freestyle relay team, joining Marvin Johnson, Benton Grutter and Jackson Vineyard (1:24.29).
Second-place Blue Tornado finishes included Vineyard in the 50 freestyle, Johnson in the 100 freestyle, and the 200 medley relay team.
Also meeting Automatic All-America qualifying times were the 200 freestyle relay team and the 200 medley relay team of Powe, Caden Wells, Vineyard and Johnson (1:32.87).
Powe and Johnson also earned Automatic All-America consideration for the 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle respectively.
In the one-meter diving competition, junior Stoney Wingfield placed third, and senior Michael Patrick finished fourth.
