Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Dalton saw a decrease in the unemployment rate of two-tenths of a percent over the month to 2.4 percent. A year ago, the rate was 5 percent.
"We are continuing to see all-time low unemployment rates across the state along with job growth in all of our statistical areas,” said Commissioner Butler.
“The focus now is getting more Georgians into the workforce to fill these critical positions, particularly as we gear up for a strong holiday employment season.”
The labor force increased in Dalton by 86 and ended the month with 58,459. That number is down 216 when compared to October of 2020.
Dalton finished the month with 57,049 employed residents. That number increased by 177 over the month and is up by 1,329 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Dalton ended October with 65,600 jobs. That number increased by 700 from September to October and is up by 1,200 when compared to this time last year.
The number of unemployment claims went down by 55 percent in Dalton in October. When compared to last October, claims were down by about 91 percent.
Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 1,147 active job postings in Dalton for October.
