Nancy McEwen Burton, 85, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, November 26, 2021. 

 

Nancy was born on June 26, 1936 in Sale Creek, Tennessee and graduated from Sale Creek High School where she played basketball and volleyball. She attended Lincoln Memorial University and graduated with a degree in education. She later received a master’s degree in education from Tennessee Tech University. Nancy was a school teacher for over 30 years, spending most of her career teaching 1st and 5th grades at Soddy Elementary. 

 

Nancy is survived by her three sons, Donald Burton, Jr. (Christy), Gary Burton and Charlie Burton (Debbie), five dear grandchildren, Adam Burton (Ashley), Sarah Burton, Logan Burton, Lance Burton (Gracee) and Abbey Burton; and three beautiful great grandchildren, Isabella Burton, Bennett Reed Celeste, and Lyla Burton.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Don Burton, Sr.; daughter, Sherry Lynn Burton; parents, Luther Ervin McEwen and Winifred Wynns McEwen; brother, Malcolm McEwen, Marshall McEwen, Tommy McEwen, and Ronald McEwen; and sister, Billie Carol Eldridge. 

 

Nancy loved swimming in her pool, taking long walks, birdwatching, gardening, watching her grandchildren play sports and laughing with her friends and family.

 

The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 29, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kevin Shelton officiating.  Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
