Lee Jones
With his family at his side, the angels singing, the Lord took the hand of Lee Alton Jones, 87, to the glorious beauty of heaven on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.
Alton, as he was known by, was a lifelong resident of Jasper, TN. He was married to JoAnn Wells Jones for the past 59 years. Alton and his late twin brother, Alvin were born on February 25, 1934, to the John Lindsey and Edith Pearl Lewis Jones. He was of the Baptist faith and a longtime member of the Bible Baptist Church in Jasper, TN.
Alton was a man known for loving his wife, daughter, Cyndy, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends he had made during his lifetime. He was known for being a jokester and a man that never met a stranger. Alton was an avid fan of the Marion County High School Warriors and University of Tennessee Vols. He was known for having a gift of having years and years of beautiful gardens. He had played softball in his younger years and enjoyed singing with his brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lindsey Jones and Edith Pearl Lewis Jones; brothers, Edward Jones, Frank Jones and his twin, Alvin Jones; and sisters, Ernestine King, Magdeline Jennings and Geraldine Pilgrim.
Alton leaves his years of memories to his beloved wife, JoAnn Wells Jones; daughter, Cyndy (Sherwin) Smith; grandchildren, Brandon (Kim) Jones and Zachary (Kellie) McCoin; two step grandsons, Brett Smith and Nic Smith; one step granddaughter, Alison Smith along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
The family will have visitation on Friday, June 18, from 5-8 p.m. CT/6 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, Tn.
The funeral service will be held at Bible Baptist Church in Jasper, Tn. on Saturday, June 19, at 11 a.m. CT/noon ET with Pastor Greg Hamman and Charlie Henson officiating.
Alton will be laid to rest following the funeral service at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, TN. Pallbearers are David Lawson, Nic Smith, Zachary McCoin, Mark Brown, Rick Brown and Charlie Henson.
At his request, in lieu of flowers, Alton wishes donations to be made to the MCHS Warriors football program in his memory.
