Chattanooga Mocs Head Men’s Golf Coach Mark Guhne takes great pride in his squad’s work on the course and in the classroom. Excellence in both is a focus. The latter is where this is focused with the latest Golf Coaches Association of America awards for both team and individually.
Individually, the duo of Leon Bader and A.J. Lintunen repeated as GCAA All-American Scholars presented by Srixon/Cleveland Golf. Minimum eligibility requirements for the honor include 3.2 cumulative grade point average, stroke average below 76.0 and be a sophomore, junior or senior academically.
Bader averaged 75.57 in team events, while Lintunen paced the squad with 72.93.
Lintunen, who graduated in May, earned All-Southern Conference honors becoming just the fourth Moc with multiple wins in a season: Bryce Ledford ’07 (2-2005), Jonathan Hodge ’09 (3-2008) and Stephan Jaeger ’12 (3-2012).
That duo led the Mocs to Outstanding Team Academic Award recognition from the GCAA. Chattanooga merited Presidents Special Recognition for exceeding a 3.5 GPA for the year. Nine of the 10 squad members made the Dean’s List as least one semester (eight made it twice) with the 10th claiming A.D. Honor Roll status. Dean’s List requires a 3.2 GPA for the semester, while A.D. Honor Roll applauds all who exceed a 3.0.
“Extremely proud of the individual and team awards,” Guhne shared. “The award expanded to include sophomores recently too so Leon has a chance to be our first 3-time winner next year. The Presidents Special Recognition is just that, special. Great work by our group to attain that.”
The Mocs return to school in the middle of the month to prepare for 2021-22. Schedule release coming soon with a couple of great opportunities to follow the guys in the area.
