Lora Chatman
Lora V. Hardy Chatman, 52, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2021 in a local hospital.
She was born July 17, 1969 in Queens, New York. She wrote poetry, essays, and was a brilliant mathematician. She enjoyed singing in the choir, playing piano, and sewing. Lora enjoyed watching movies, especially comedies and horror films. She was a spiritual, a loving wife, and an amazing mother. She was political, an activist, and never afraid to stand up for what was right. Lora loved animals, especially dogs. She had dreams of being a lawyer. Lora met Reverend Anthony W. Chatman in 1988. They were married in 1989 in Rockwood, TN. Together they raised 4 children, Shellyta, Lora, Jessyka, and Zoe.
She was preceded in death by parents, Reverend Major David J. and Easter Cason Hardy, Jr.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Reverend Anthony W. Chatman; daughters, Shellyta Chatman, Lora (Marcel) Natson, Jessyka (Emanuel) Clark, and Zoe Chatman; step-daughter, Dana Chatman; step-mother, Carmilla Hardy; siblings, Carol (Franklin) Sullivan, David (Michelle) Hardy, Janice (Kenneth) Benton, and Jahan Hardy; step-siblings, Kyrus Whitehurst and Adrian Woodard; aunts and uncles, Reverend Giles West (Doris) Hardy, James Brookins, William (Edna) Cason Jr, Stella Casen, Margie Casen, Joe (Lessie) Casen, Lucy Owens, Jessica (Charles) Pole, Cynthia Lovette, Dr. Angelo (Dr. Sharon) Casen; cousins, Gary Brookins, Darryl Brookins, Tonya Brookins, Glenda Griffin, Giles Westley Hardy Jr., Crystal Williams, Pamela Reid; nieces and nephews, Matthew Sullivan, Cierra Sullivan, Ashley Hardy, David Hardy IV, Janae Benton, Kendalyn Benton, and Kenneth Benton, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She will lie in state on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.
A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. at in the chapel with Pastor Brenda Benn of Westly Chapel Community Church as the moderator.
