Reverend Gertel Maude Gordon
Reverend Gertel Maude Gordon, 81, a resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the family residence.
Reverend Gordon was born in Jamaica and was preceded in death by her son, Ward Morrison and her parents. Reverend Gordon was educated in London, England. She received her degree in nursing and became an registered nurse. She also had a degree in business and a degree in textile and design. She was raised in the Church of God and had a heart for God and winning the lost! While in England, she was the Brownie guide leader (Girl Scouts) and she was the head of the women's ministry. Reverend Gordon moved to Miami, Fl. where she started and pastored the Antioch Assembly Youth and Community Ministries. She also served as head of the women's ministries and was heavily involved with the Reach our Youth program in Miami. She worked with the Miami/Dade Tax office with over 19 years of service. When she retired, Miami/Dade named Jan. 31, 2006 as Gertel Gordon Day.
Survivors include her daughters, Jeanette Shim-Hue, Barbara Williams (Gerald), Annette Morrison, Natalee Boone (Stephen) and Tania Temple; and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 3:30 p.m. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with Reverend Jim Hibbard officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as casket bearers.
