William “Bill” Thompson

William “Bill” Thompson, 81, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Bill was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and retired after 33 years of service with the Chattanooga Fire Station #14. He loved going fishing, riding his four-wheeler, spending time on the water in his boat, and cheering on the Tennessee Vols. Bill was a hard working fearless man and an excellent provider. His love for his grandchildren was unparalleled and he was affectionately known as “Gramper.” Bill is dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Annie Thompson; son, Joshua Elijah Dickey and grandson, Noah Robert Payton.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Thompson; children: William “Bill” Boyd Thompson, Shannon (Terry) Payton, and Tish Downs; grandchildren, Destiny (Corey) McNabb, Gabriel “Gabe” Payton, Randi Holland, and Bryan Willis.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, at 2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Ken Schoening officiating. Interment will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until the service hour in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
