Betsy Ann Barnette Denton, 84, peacefully passed away in her sleep in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on May 25, 2022.

Betsy was born on June 13, 1937, in Colbert, Ga., where she lived with her parents and older brother.  She met her husband, Robert (Bob) Denton at a USO dance in 1958 and they were married in 1959.  They began their life together in Brooklyn, NY and quickly became parents to two sons and then purchased their first home in Bay Shore, Long Island.  The city had proven to be quite a culture shock for Betsy and moving their family to Long Island was a welcomed change.  While living on Long Island they added two daughters to their family before moving to Chattanooga. Betsy was thrilled to be in the south again, as well as closer to her mother and brother in Atlanta.

Betsy thrived in Chattanooga, making lifelong friends, playing golf and bridge, baking Christmas cookies, hosting family events and reveling in becoming a grandmother. She loved the Atlanta Braves and was a loyal fan for most of her adult life. Betsy was an extraordinary seamstress, altering clothes, wedding gowns, making bridesmaids dresses for her daughter’s wedding and Halloween costumes for her children and her grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life and they were always her first priority.

Over the years Bob and Betsy relocated to Germantown, Tn., as well as Griffin, Ga., but Betsy always said her soul was the happiest living in Chattanooga. A few years ago, after the passing of Bob, she moved back to Chattanooga to spend her remaining years enjoying the area she loved the most.

In addition to her husband Bob, Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Weber and Ethel Barnette, her brother, Alton Barnette, and her daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Kenny Adams. She is survived by her adult children - David Denton (Debbie) of Clarksville, TN; Kenneth Denton (Pam) of Ooltewah TN; Judy Bishop (Roger) of Canton, GA; and Gail Scott (Chad) of Dothan, AL.  Along with her children are 10 amazing grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and granddogs!  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all.

Funeral services will be held from the graveside, at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
