Our Safety Is Gone - And Response

Sad news seeing a person was murdered at the Rosemont Apartment. We lived on Oak Street across the street from the then named Glenwood Apartments from 1953 to 1956. I spent many a day there as there were probably 100 school age kids  who lived in the units. 

In those days, parents simply let their kids roam the neighborhood with no worry for their safety. Now adults can't walk through the complex without getting shot.

I attended the first through the third grades at the old Glenwood Elementary School which was located in the parking lot of CHI Memorial. When I was six-years-old, I walked the seven blocks from Oak Street down Glenwood Avenue to the school by myself. Anybody want to try that now, not only in Glenwood but any neighborhood in town?

America in the 21st century.

Douglas, those days weren't the rosey portrait you try to paint them to be. Chattanooga has always had a habit of covering up much of its dark history.
