Raymond Carl Burnfin passed away peacefully on January 25, 2023.

Ray (or Ray C. as he was known in his younger years) was born on Nov. 8, 1946, in Holden, Mo. He was born to the late Charles and Opal (Phegley) Burnfin.

Ray graduated from Holden High School in the class of 1964. After graduation, he moved to Albany, Georgia where his older brother Jasper resided. While in Albany, he was drafted into the United States Army in 1966. He served in Germany and was discharged in 1968.

He met his wife Charlotte, of 52 years and they were married in Albany, Ga., on June 27, 1970. After the wedding, the couple settled in Conyers, Ga., until June of 1972. In 1972, they moved to the Union Grove community of Lithonia where they raised their family for the next 20 years.

In June of 1992 he moved the family to LaFayette, Ga. He lived at Bluebird Hollow Farm for the remainder of his life. He had always wanted to move back to a farm and he believed this area of Northwest Georgia was the prettiest in the state.

One of Ray’s greatest loves was spiritual music and poetry. He loved the old hymns best of all and poetry that reflected life viewed from a Biblical perspective. He would say that this love of music and poetry was passed down from his parents and he would be proud that this love has been passed on to future generations.

Ray is survived by wife, Charlotte (Nix) Burnfin, his sons, Neil (April) Burnfin and Ryan (Mia) Burnfin, grandsons, Elijah Burnfin and Jackson Burnfin, and granddaughter, Jenna Burnfin.

He is also survived by his brothers, Roy Burnfin, Tom Burnfin, and Ronnie Burnfin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Opal Burnfin, his brothers, Johnny and Jasper Burnfin, and his sister, Agnes (Burnfin) Logan. He is also preceded in death by his son, Carlton Burnfin.

Services will be handled by Campbell-Cast Funeral Home in Holden, Mo.
