Mary Alice “Cotton” Qualls Smith, 92, went to be with the Lord on November 17, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John F. Smith, parents, Horace and Bessie Qualls; and sisters Ruby, Lela and Shirley.

She is survived by daughters Tinna Basham, Susan Smith-Erby, and Janice (Ray) Johnson; five grandchildren: Jason, Amanda, Brad, Braxton and Breanne; seven great-grandchildren: Johnathan, Austin, Zoe, Anna, Phoenix, Brooks and Ashlyn; two sisters: Billie and Georgia; and two brothers: Buddy and Johnny.

Mary worked for Kingston Corp/Gold Bond for 41 years. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, collecting dolls, baking and spending time with grandchildren and great grands. Her calling in life was to selflessly help others, even if it meant her not doing what she needed to do for herself. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be on Saturday, November 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the service at 2 p.m., at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace with Marvin McClendon officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at Chattanooga Memorial Park in White Oak.
