Brittany Leigh Matheny Smith
Brittany Leigh Matheny Smith, 33, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, in a local hospital from complications of pneumonia.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Brittany enjoyed spending time with her children, painting, writing poetry and playing the keyboard. Brittany attended Ringgold High School and graduated in 2008, where she was a varsity cheerleader and member of the National Honor Society. She obtained her B.S. in Nursing from Southern Adventist University. During her career, she worked in various hospital settings as well as a traveling nurse.
Brittany was preceded in death by her grandfather, Billy Land and step-father, Rick Williams.
She is survived by her fiancé, Paul Elrod; two sons, Jaxson Knight and Hudson Smith; daughter, Mila Elrod; father, Bobby (Lisa) Matheny; mother, Wendy (Chris) Mylek; brothers, Brett Matheny, Kory Allmond and Rick Williams; sisters, Whitney (Jacob) Britt, Kristen (Dusty) Rose and Tiffany Williams; grandparents, Shirley Land, Doyle (Janie) Matheny; several aunts, uncle and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Carter and all those in the MICU at Erlanger who did everything they possibly could. The compassion will never be forgotten. Our darling Brittany, may you rest in peace.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, and from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bill Owens and Rev. Tony Leonard officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
