Rhoades, James Edward (Cleveland)

James Edward Rhoades, 80, of Cleveland, passed away on March 21, 2023. He was born on Dec. 27, 1942 to the late Ed Rhoades, Jr. and Elsie Lucille Greene. He retired from McKee Bakery after many years of service. James was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a “jack of all trades” who could work on just about anything. James was a devoted man of God who loved speaking with others about his faith.

In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his sister, Della Mae Jackson, and brother, Allen Ray Rhoades, Sr.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children, James Richard Rhoades (Debbie), Donna Kay Wilbanks (Michael), James Timothy Rhoades and Melissa Anne Ross (Michael); siblings, Judy Ann Mayrose (Rick), Emma Holt (Dave), Sandy Reed (John), Doug Rhoades (Nita) and Jeffrey Rhoades; grandchildren, Michael Preston Rhoades (Zaidy), Mark Shannon Rhoades (Lacey), Tiffany Nicole Buchtel (Harley), Austin Paul Arp (Kate) and Talesha Haley White (Casey); six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

James’ family will receive friends from noon-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 at the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home, and from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, March 26 at the funeral home. A celebration of James’ life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday following visitation, with Rev. Ken Eledge officiating. He will be laid to rest at Varner Cemetery in Soddy Daisy following the service.
