Retired From TVA After 25 Years

Clifton Steve Montgomery, Sr. (Steve), 79, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at his home, in the presence of his family.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Montgomery; his mother, Margaret (Scott) Montgomery; and his brother, Simon Cowley.

A native of Chattanooga, Steve attended Howard High School, graduated in 1961 and retired from TVA after 25 years.

Steve and his wife, Barbara, have been members of the Jehovah’s Witness Congregation for 43 years.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Ann (Shipman) Montgomery; his children, Anthony Troy Sales, Clifton Steve Montgomery, Jr., Dawn Renée Montgomery and Sean Dorrell Montgomery; and three sisters, Evelyn Montgomery (Roger) Colley, Emily Montgomery Jones and Sherry Montgomery Whiteside. He was “Papa” to 12 grandchildren, Steve, III, Brandii, Brittanie, Bria, Sean, Jr., Javaceia, Brian, Kennedy, Allen, Briyanna, Anthony, Jr., and Isaiah; 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Public viewing will be held at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue on Sunday, March 26 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1p.m. Burial will be Monday, March 27 at Greenwood Cemetery, 1954 Greenwood Road at 10:30 a.m.
