Christopher "Chris" Thorne Moffat
Christopher "Chris" Thorne Moffat, Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed from his earthly life on March 26, 2023 at 60.
After receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis in late November, 2022, Chris bravely lived the remainder of his life with dignity and grace and chose to be happy. He treasured his time of visits and phone calls with family and friends.
Chris enjoyed the Tennessee River, boating, motorcycles, and music. He was an accomplished lead guitar player and played with several groups. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching FOX news. His infectious personality, smile, and laughter always made him the life of the party.
Left to cherish the memories are his son, Christopher James (CJ) Moffat and CJ’s mother Ladell McCullough Moffat, both of Chattanooga. Also surviving him are a sister Beth Tysor, Colorado Springs, CO, brother Jay Lucas, Port Charlotte, FL, several nieces and nephews, and many friends and extended family.
Born in Dayton, OH on June 29, 1962 to the late Paul R. Moffat and the late Barbara Swaney, Chris joined the United State Marine Corps at 17 years of age, serving three years and receiving his Marksman Rifle Badge and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He moved to Chattanooga in the early 1980s and began working in the construction industry, which turned into his lifelong career. Chris became a general contractor in the mid-1990s and started his own company, Moffat Construction, LLC, where he was active until shortly before his passing.
The family appreciates the care, compassion, and support offered by Hearth Hospice and his nighttime sitters.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, in the chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343 with Chaplain David King officiating.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30, from 4-6 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home.
Interment will be on Friday, March 31, at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, 4758 New Manchester Hwy, Tullahoma, Tn. 37388.
