New beer permits were approved by the city beer board for several locations including the Chattanooga Zoo, 301 N. Holtzclaw Ave. There have been beer sales at special events held at the zoo in the past, but this will be a permanent license. With it, patrons will be allowed to walk through the zoo with a beer. The board was told that four other large zoos in the state already are allowed to sell beer. The employees will be professionally trained for Chattanooga’s beer sales and cautioned to watch and make sure that there will be no pass-offs to minors.
Goodfellas Pizzeria, 1208 King St. Unit 105, has changed owners. Eric Boggs has acquired the business from his mother. The board was told that all employees will be retained and no changes will be made, however a new beer license was needed due to the ownership change.
The Humidor Cigar Lounge, 3202 Brainerd Road, at the corner of Seminole and Brainerd, near the tunnel, is primarily a cigar bar and restaurant, but it also is available as an event space. It operates as a work space for individuals during the day. The bar will be selling alcohol in addition to beer.
Studio 58, at 4817 Highway 58, is a new sports bar with a seating capacity of 190. It will be open until midnight during the week and 2 a.m. on weekends.
Three locations of Family Dollar Stores were also approved to sell carry-out beer. The locations are 2101 E. 3rd. St., 500 Brainerd Road and 3251 Rossville Blvd. James Ballard, representing the businesses, said Family Dollar is considered to be a small grocery store selling a wide variety of name brand products. These stores are open until 9 p.m.
