U.S. Army Veteran Held Long Career With The Internal Revenue Service

Elmer Ross Roy, Jr., 75, of Harrison, went home to be with the Lord and his beautiful daughter, Dianna, on Tuesday, May 9.

After graduating from Sweetwater High in 1966, he joined the U.S. Army in October 1967 as a member of the Army Security Agency & was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Badge & Marksman Badge. His love for America ran deep and he was proud to serve her faithfully in the same branch as his father.

Following four years of service in the Army, he graduated from The University of Tennessee in 1975. He served 26 years with the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Officer.

Ross was married to the love of his life, Gloria, for 51 years. They had two children, Nathan & Dianna. He was a Scoutmaster for St. Jude Catholic Church Scout Troop 172. He was a parishioner of St. Stephen Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 6099. He loved traveling, loved a good book and he loved his family and making memories together. He was a proud Papaw & loved his grandchildren more than words can express.

He was preceded in death by parents Elmer and Joyce Roy and his daughter, Dianna Ralls. He is survived by: his wife, Gloria; son Nathan (Kerry), son-in-law Eric; grandchildren: Ryman, Kate, Griffin, Harrison and Evan; brothers: Tony (Angela), Phil (Yvonne) and Zack (Glenda); brothers-in-law Robert (Linda) and Fr. George Roy and nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 15, at Saint Stephen Catholic Church, with Father George Roy OMI officiating, with interment following at Chattanooga National Cemetery (please meet by 12:15 p.m. at the cemetery office).

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 14, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home in Hixson, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in the name of Ross Roy, to St. Jude School for tuition assistance. St. Jude School, 930 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
