Three Ooltewah Youth Association all-star teams opened Dizzy Dean Softball World Series action Friday with victories in their respective age groups. The 6u Lady Owls Elite, 8u Unicorns Elite and 10u LunaChicks Extreme all advanced to action Saturday.

The 8u Unicorns opened series play with a 19-3 victory over the Fayette County, Tennessee All-Stars. Scarlett Fox and Findlay Howard both homered in support of the win, while the defense turned a double play and successfully executed a relay play at the plate to save a run.

The Unicorns defense then shut out the Grenada, Mississippi All-Stars in an evening match-up.

Aubrey Legge homered twice and Kolbi Davis, Scarlett Fox, and Allison Sherbesman also went yard in the 15-0 victory. The Unicorns play Cleveland, the Mississippi State (North) Champions, Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The winner advances to the semi-finals Sunday.

The 6u Lady Owls Elite won their only game of the day 20-10, backed by great defensive plays by Abigail Fox and Charley Phillips on offense. The Lady Owls Elite square off against Southaven, Mississippi’s All-star squad at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. A victory in that game will advance them into the semi-finals Sunday.

The 10u LunaChicks Extreme kept the Ooltewah win streak alive with an 11-6 victory over Choctaw County, Mississippi’s All-star team. Khloe Denham allowed just one earned run over four innings, while striking out seven batters. Denham was backed by some strong defensive plays from her team in support of the victory. The LunaChicks play the 10u Grenada All-star team at 4:00 p.m. with a chance to advance to the semi-finals on the line.
