Roy Samuel Wood
Roy Samuel Wood, 86, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, surrounded by his family. Roy was greatly loved by everyone and was lovingly known (or referred to) as “The Daddy Rabbit."
He was born on Nov. 13, 1936, in Hughes, Arkansas to Fred and Verna Mae Smith Wood. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force where he was an aircraft mechanic. Roy had a big personality and was a salesman by trade. Over his career, he worked for several companies such as Goodyear, Firestone, Otasco and finally retired from Autozone.
Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Cliva Ruth Wood; son, Michael Wood “Woody”; parents, Fred and Verna Wood, and brother, Jack Fred Wood II.
He is survived by two sons, Sam (Faye) Wood and Randy Wood; daughter-in-law, Julie Weaver Wood; sister-in-law, Charlene Wood. He is also survived by his brother, Don Wood of Spring Hill, Tn.
He was the grandfather of six, Tarasita (Glenn) Keeble, Julie (Bryan) Hogue, Bryan (Melanie) Wood, Lance (Rebecca) Lockhart, Jason (Maria) Wood, and Kaitlin Wood. Roy was also the great- grandfather of seven, Madison and Mackenzie Keeble, Emerson and Brett Hogue, Luke and Zoe Wood, and Paisley Lockhart. He also has several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Hamilton Funeral Home, on Oct. 4, from 4-8 p.m. A celebration of life will be Thursday, Oct. 5, at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Don Glenn officiating. The burial will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1 p.m. with full military honors. Pallbearers will be his grandsons & great-grandsons.
