Lee Rowland Long went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on September 16, 2024.

Lee was born on Nov. 3, 1944, in Philadelphia, and grew up in Ble Hill, Maine. Her parents, Mary Helen Rowland and Alan Rowland Sr., her husband, J. William “Bill” Long, her brother, Alan Rowland Jr., and sister-in-law, Jane Long Splawn preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Rowland, two nephews, David and Scott Rowland, Niece, Susan (Ron) Wirt, their children, Emily Wirt (Adam Forrester) and Zoe Wirt (Andrew Brown); nephew, Ray (Brenda) Splawn, their children, Andrew (Susan) Splawn, Hannah Splawn and their grandchildren, Alyssa, Caroline, Roland, and Catherine Splawn, Trevor, Connor, and Jordan King.

Lee attended Maryville College and was a graduate of Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa. She received her RN from the Presbyterian University Pennsylvania Medical Center School of Nursing. She served at Whitesburg Kentucky Appalachian Regional Hospital; Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth, Me.; Blount Memorial Hospital, Maryville, Tn.; Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medi9cal Center, Philadelphia and Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, Blue Hill, Me.

She retired from medical practice as physician’s assistant to Dr. Charles Portera, Sr. She held membership with the Fellowship in Gynecology-Oncology, the Oncology Nursing Society and the Association of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

She was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church where she served as a Stephens Minister, member of United Methodist Women and the Hodge Sunday School Class.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. at Grove Level Cemetery, Dalton, with Reverend Michelle Hunter and Dr. David Harr officiating. Mrs. Long will be buried alongside her husband, Bill.
