Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, broadcaster Chip Chapman and Senator Bo Watson were among those honoring Dave Staley upon his retirement
The Hamilton County legislative delegation honored veteran sports broadcaster Dave Staleyat WDEF Studios, recognizing his extraordinary career in journalism, particularly in sports broadcasting.
Mr. Staley’s broadcasting career spans over four decades, beginning in 1981 in Wyoming before moving to Chattanooga, where he spent 37 years at NewsChannel 9. He later concluded his career at WDEF, where he occasionally fills in today.
He is best known for his creation of Dave’s Diamond Darlings, a local favorite that humorously captured the antics of little league baseball. Mr. Staley was the sole creator of the show, which ran for 25 years and earned him multiple awards, including three MidSouth Emmys and three Edward R. Murrow National Awards.
Mr. Staley was inducted into the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame in 2013 and has covered major sports events, including Super Bowls and World Series. He remains an active part of the community while enjoying time with his wife, Ginnia.
“The Hamilton County state legislative delegation is honored to present a proclamation to Mr. Staley. His distinguished career in sports broadcasting has brought both entertainment and pride to our community,” said Senator Bo Watson. “Dave exemplifies the values of dedication, creativity, and integrity, and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.”
