Lifelong Chattanoogan Was Active With Hamilton County Repbulican Women

Eva Jo Catherine Mason Smith, 99, widow of M. Harold Smith, passed peacefully on November 9, 2024, at The Lantern where she most recently resided.

Chattanooga was home for Eva Jo her entire life. She spent her early years as a resident of Bonnie Oaks Orphanage and graduated from Tyner High School. There she met Harold, and they married just before he served in the Army-Air Force during WWII. After raising her three sons, she began working with Elgin Smith Realty and became an award-winning agent. Eva Jo was a life member of Hamilton County Republican Women where she served two terms as president, 2004-2007, served as a board member and on various committees.

Throughout her life she loved our Lord faithfully and was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Eva Jo was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, and her youngest son, Andy Smith.

She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Hal and Sally Smith of Pensacola, FL, and Stephen and Sandra Smith of Charlotte, NC., plus six grandchildren and their spouses, Tricia and Oscar Harper, Debbie and Tony Bateman, Michael and Cheryl Smith, David and Ileana Smith, Katherine and Kenny Nobles, Natalie and Isaiah Hyman, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening Nov. 13, from 5–7 p.m.
