Charles “Grandaddy” Clayton, 89, a lifelong resident of Hixson, passed away in his home on Friday, November 15,2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was a simple, loving, caring man who enjoyed family and friends, traveling around in his old pickup and collecting bargains and anything he thought would make his family happy. He especially loved giving to the children in our families. We will always have many wonderful memories of his being a good husband, great Father, Grandfather, and Great Great grandfather, and for anyone that ever knew him, he was a Good Man and will be missed by everyone he touched.

Charles was a member of New Salem Baptist Church and previously Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was retired from the maintenance department at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, and in his later years collecting stuff.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lou Hart Clayton, parents George and Mable Clayton, brothers Wesley and Leslie Clayton, and sister Parthena Leffew.

He leaves behind a loving and grateful family of Judy (Tim) Wilson of Hixson, Kathy (Gary) Newby of Kingston, Kenneth (Vickie) Clayton of Soddy Daisy, grandchildren Joel (Amy) Newby, Jessica (Roger) Gallaher, Christie (Shawn) Ellis, Jarrod Wilson, Jacqueline (John) Sharp, and honorary grandchild Joseph Martino, great grandchildren Candace Newby, Taylor, Colt, and Sydney Newby, Elijah Gallaher, Mason and Gracynn Ellis, and Justin, Jackson, and Jacob Sharp. Remaining behind is his constant companion “Granny cat”.

Funeral services will be conducted from the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. with Pastors Gary Jared, Allen Rogers, and Patrick Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, with Joel Newby, Roger Gallaher, Shawn Ellis, Jarrod Wilson, John Sharp, and Joseph Martino honorably serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 12 p.m. until service time at North Chapel.

Our family would like to express our appreciation for the support of Visiting Angels and especially to Kirsten and Janet along with Hospice nurse Pat.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
