Local Composer's Debut Performance Features New Music For Winds, Strings And Percussion

  • Monday, April 1, 2024

UTC student and composer Katherine Fair will debut her original pieces for winds, strings and percussion on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Cadek Recital Hall at 725 Oak St. This free chamber concert is the culmination of Ms. Fair's music composition education, featuring local Chattanooga talent and fellow students.

Ms. Fair's 45 minute program features works centered on her nostalgic life-long love for the Appalachian mountains. Ms. Fair's works also muse on her identity in relation to her own mental health as a bipolar person, as well as how these altered states affect her art.

Additionally, Ms. Fair will take the stage on violin to perform her own folk medley with percussion, Yellow, inspired by the music of the Yellow Deli and its subtle influences on the UTC campus. The program will include a string quartet, solo and duo winds with percussion, and a larger chamber ensemble.

"I am humbled and excited to have my chamber pieces performed for my friends, peers, and mentors, and I cannot wait to share my works with the Chattanooga public," said Ms. Fair.
