UTC Women Tied For Seventh At SoCon Golf Championships

  • Sunday, April 14, 2024
The Chattanooga Mocs opened play Sunday at the Southern Conference Championships at Moss Creek Golf Club. The Mocs shot 313 on the South Course and are tied in seventh with Mercer.

Makenzie Cooper led the way with 76. Violeta Fernandez-Tagle and Nieves Martin had 78s with Giulia Foresta’s 81 closing the counting tally. Kera Healey had the drop score with 82.

It was a day where the ladies just couldn’t get much going on the tight “Devil’s Elbow” layout.

“It wasn’t our day,” Coach Colette Murray stated.
“Thankfully we have two more days to try to fight back."

It was a tough start with the squad 5 over through three holes. They settled in before three bogeys on nine put the team at 12 over through nine. That doubled over the next six holes before a solid finish over the final three to send the ladies into an early start on day two.

ETSU holds the early lead with 293. Furman is second at 295 followed by Samford’s 302. The Paladins’ Anna Morgan is the individual leader with 2-under 70.

The tournament returns to the course Monday at 8:30 a.m. The Mocs and Bears are joined by The Citadel leading the field off No. 1. Live scoring and pairings are linked above.
