Covenant Men's and Women's Tennis Teams Earn Senior Day Wins

The Covenant College men's and women's tennis teams honored seniors on Monday with both teams taking wins. 

The men's tennis team cruised to a conference victory over Belhaven before dropping a neutral site match to No. 9 Sewanee.

Game 1 Final: Covenant 9, Belhaven 0 Ben Onufrock and Austin Dreslinski got the job done in the No. 1 slot with an 8-2 result over Abraham Gonzales and Justin Humphrey. Also earning an 8-2 win was Camden Lashley and Solomon Crouch over Jesus Diaz and Josiah Leggett in the No. 2 position.
Gill Dunn and Jeb Barnette narrowly defeated Mark Matviier and Mark Breedlove 8-6 in the final match to give Covenant the doubles sweep.

In singles, Onufrock picked up another win in the No. 1 position against Gonzales 6-1, 6-2.
Dreslinski earned two points on his Senior Day, defeating Humphrey 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 slot.
Caleb Domkowski picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 3 slot over Matviier. In the No. 4 slot, Crouch secured another win on his Senior Day, defeating Diaz 6-1, 6-4. Another Senior earning two points was Dunn as he won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 position against Breedlove. Graham Hayes secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hayden Lassiter in the final singles match.

Game 2 Final: Covenant 2, No. 9 Sewanee 7 Dreslinski and Onufrock were upended by Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund 3-8 in the No. 1 position. In the No. 2 slot, Crouch and Lashley also were defeated 3-8 as they took on Gil Weston and Liam Baer. Sewanee earned the doubles sweep as Domkowski and Dunn suffered a 4-8 loss to Talman Ramsey and Jakobi Andre-Remi.

In singles, Onufrock earned a point for Covenant in the No. 1 position with a 7-6, 7-6 win over Wicklund. Dreslinski was defeated by Weston 0-6, 3-6 in the No. 2 slot.
Domkowski earned a victory in the No. 3 ranked match as his opponent retired. In the No. 4 slot, Dunn was defeated by Henry Hyden 6-7, 0-6. Hayes played in the No. 5 position and lost 3-6, 2-6 to Drew Rukavina. Gavin Patton lost the final match of the day, 0-6, 1-6 to George Thomas Alexander.

Covenant travels to Maryville on Saturday for its final match of the regular season.

 

The women's tennis team sent its two seniors out with a bang in their final home match, defeating Belhaven 9-0. 

Final: Covenant 9, Belhaven 0 Seniors Alexis Baker and Dani Rappuhn cruised to an 8-1 win over Lily Grace and Evey Moore in the No. 1 slot. Freshmen Zoe Giuntoli and Christina Englished teamed up for an 8-2 win over Kendra Williams and Lillian Williams in the No. 2 ranked match.  Macy Matson and Angel Traylor earned a point for Covenant by way of a forfeit. 

In singles, No. 1 position Addi Gunyon got the job done with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Grace.
Carr played a near perfect match in the No. 2 slot, defeating Moore 6-0, 6-0. 
Matson earned another point for Covenant with a 6-1, 6-0 win over K. Williams in the No. 3 ranked match.  Baker secured a two-point day on her Senior Day by defeating L. Williams 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 slot. Rappuhn also delivered two points on her Senior Day after taking down Goggans 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 ranked match.  Estee Verdery won the final match by way of a forfeit. 

Covenant ends the regular season at Maryville on Saturday.
