Doris Shirk
Doris Shirk, 92, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024.
Doris was born on June 10, 1931, in Manhattan, Ks., and attended Kansas State University. She married Wayne Shirk on April 26, 1953, and they were happily married for 65 years. Doris was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, golf, and sewing. She traveled extensively with her husband throughout the country where they spent their time hiking and birdwatching. Doris also loved playing piano and singing in the choir and was later an active member of First Lutheran Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Doris is survived by her three children, Carolyn (Randall) Funderburk, Steve (Bonnie) Shirk, and James (Sandra) Shirk; grandchildren, Thomas (Priya) Funderburk, Logan Funderburk, Tanner (Kelly) Shirk, Hunter (Areli) Shirk, Talbot (Kelsey) Shirk, Owen (Mary Rachel) Shirk, and Anna (Blake) Shirk; and great-grandchildren Miller and Eliza Shirk, and Luke and Ella Funderburk. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Shirk.
Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery on a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to First Lutheran Church, 2800 McCallie Avenue or Hearth Hospice.
