Tennessee Headed To CWS Title Game After 4-1 Win Over Aggies

  • Sunday, June 23, 2024

Dylan Dreiling homered in the seventh and Cal Stark followed suit in the eighth to send Tennessee to the title game of the College World Series on Sunday afternoon in Omaha.

The Vols' 4-1 victory over Texas A&M to give the top-ranked team a chance to win it all for coach Tony Vitello.

The Aggies led much of the game after Jace LaViolette homered to right in the first off Drew Beam.

The Vols repeatedly got the leadoff man on base, but couldn't break through until late in the game.

Beam, otherwise, held the #3 Aggies in place until he was relieved by Aaron Combs, who was just as effective. Nate Snead finished it off.

Each team managed seven hits, but it was the three homers that brought in all the runs.

Aggie freshman lefty Kaiden Wilson gave up both home runs.

He followed an outstanding performance by Texas A&M pitcher Chris Cortez, who finally left with a possible hand injury after he accumulated a high pitch count.

Christian Moore led off the game with a single, but that was all his production. Blake Burke went hitless, including a weak grounder with the bases loaded. Billy Amick was hitless in five at bats.

Shortstop Dean Curley had two singles and scored twice.
