Joan Talley, 77, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, departed this life on Thursday, June 20, 2024, while at her home.

A 1964 graduate of Riverside High School, Joan went on to attend Knoxville College before returning to Chattanooga, where she worked as the Deputy Clerk for the Hamilton County General Sessions Court for 39 years. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, shopping online, playing bridge, and paying her grandsons with $2 bills for getting good grades.

Joan was preceded in death by her mother, Rosie Thurmond; father, Leroy Thurmond; nephew, Michael Derek Thurmond; son-in-law, Chuck Johnson II; and her beloved friend, Linda Clayton.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Lynn Johnson; grandsons, Bryce, Branden, and Braylen Johnson; brothers, Stanley (Gerri) Thurmond and Steven (Evelynia) Thurmond; nieces and nephews; devoted friends, Judy Brown, Yvonne Mayfield, and Bob Allen; and many other friends, family members, and extended family members.

Joan's family received friends on Tuesday, July 2, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home.

Her memorial service followed at 4 p.m. with Pastor Alonzo W. Noble as the eulogist.
