Donald Eugene “Donnie” Alexander, 79, of Soddy Daisy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Born on Aug. 27, 1944, he was a lifelong resident of the area. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served his country in the Vietnam War receiving two Purple Hearts. He was a dedicated member of Christ Family Church. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Dailey and Rachel Neal Alexander; siblings, Jasper Dean Alexander, Wilda Nappier, Peggy Alexander, Sylvia Wingate.

Survivors are his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Lou Walker Alexander “His Sweet Pea” and she called him “Baby Doll”; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Emily Alexander; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Pemberton (Daniel), Garrett Alexander (Jennifer); great-grandson, Jace Alexander; his loving pets, Smokey and Daisy; siblings, Melvin Alexander of Battle Ground, Washington, Glenn Alexander of Huntington Beach, Ca. and Neal Alexander (Rhona) of Soddy Daisy; special friend, Dennis McVay; several nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 15, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services will be on Tuesday, July 16, at 12 p.m. at Christ Family Church with Bishop Calvin Nunley officiating.

Donnie will lie in state from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday at the church before the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 942, 9615 West Ridge Trail Road, Soddy Daisy, Tn. 37379 in care of the homeless.
