Six Ooltewah Youth Association (OYA) baseball and softball all-star teams placed at the Tennessee Dizzy Dean State tournament this weekend at Warner Park.
On the softball side, championship Sunday began with the 10u Wannabeez All-Stars defeating the Bledsoe County Lady Warriors 10-4. The Wannabeez were down 3-1 going into the bottom of the 2nd, before exploding for five runs to take a 6-3 lead, which they wouldn't relinquish. The 10u team, which featured players from the Panthers, Unicorns and Wannabeez regular season teams, went undefeated at State.
This is the third consecutive 10u State Championship in softball for OYA.
The 13u Ooltewah Bandits Elite also went undefeated at State and dominated with two shutout victories. They bested the Chattanooga Attack team out of Red Bank 6-2 to bring home Ooltewah's first 13u banner. The 13u team included players from the Bandits and Scorpions regular season teams.
In the softball coach pitch division, both the 6u Lady Owls and 8u Rock-Ettes Elite made it to the championship game and finished as finalists.
On the baseball side, the 7u Ooltewah Owls earned a third banner for OYA by going undefeated at State. The Owls bested the Signal Mountain Eagles 13-2 to win the championship in their age group. The 6u Owls also made it to the championship game and ended the season as the runner-up in their respective age division.
Ooltewah Youth Association (
ooltewahyouth.com) has a rich history of developing local softball and baseball players. Just last year, OYA's 8u softball all-star team won the Dizzy Dean World Series, while two other OYA softball teams finished runner-up and the 6u baseball team finished third at World.
