Emma Blake Love
Emma Blake Love, 82, transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday July 19, 2024, surrounded by family and friends, at her family residence.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1941, in Roanoke, Al., to the late Richard Blake and Emma Lue Jackson. Emma joined First Baptist Church in Roanoke, Al. at an early age. She graduated from Randolph County Training School, Roanoke in 1960. Shortly after graduating high school, she moved to Chattanooga, and later began working at Memorial Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse for more than 20 years. After retiring from Memorial Hospital and enjoying her time off, Emma decided to return to work and accepted a position with the City of Chattanooga until her second retirement. Upon establishing her home in Chattanooga, Emma joined Second Missionary Baptist Church in 1962 where she served on the Nurse’s Guild and Missionary Union.
While working and establishing a career in Chattanooga, Emma met Earl A. Love and they were united in holy matrimony on Feb. 19, 1966. They enjoyed many years of traveling, cruise ships, and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Blake; mother, Emma Lue Jackson; and husband, Earl A. Love.
She leaves to cherish her memories special cousin and caregiver, Maurice (Christie) Jackson; special niece, Ayoola Jackson; life long and special friend, Janet Moore; brothers-in-law, Charles (Colline) Love and Robert Love; sister-in-law, Gloria Thirkill; step-son, Edgar Love; step-granddaughter, Shana Love, all of Chattanooga; aunt, Mildred Jackson of Chattanooga; and lifelong cousins, Corine Dunson and Cora Lee Godbee; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other cousins.
Emma will lie in state on Thursday, July 25, from 1-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. with Dr. Ernest L. Reid, Jr. as the eulogist.
Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
